ANAKIN GLANCED BACK at the still-smoking droids. That was it! The jet packs!

Kicking the droids apart, he yanked a pack free and strapped it to his back. Without checking to see if it was still operational, he took a running start and launched himself through the shattered window.

He slapped the controls. The jets didn’t fire. He tried again, but still there was nothing. Gravity took hold, and he plummeted toward the ground.

The rockets ignited on the third attempt, shooting him up after the freighter. Within seconds, he was in the clouds, but the ship was too far away. Knowing he was pushing the jet pack to its limits, he twisted the speed control, the wind stinging his eyes.

The gap between him and the freighter narrowed. Yes. He was doing it. He could feel the scorching heat of the ship’s rockets against his skin, the thunder of its engine drowning out the whine of his own pack. Just a little closer and he’d…what? Slice himself through the hull? Sever a fuel line?

He’d have to work it out when he got there.
